The Information, Communication and Technology Services branch (ICT Services) of the Department of Internal Services is a leader in client focused service delivery. This branch is responsible for all NS Government departments, agencies, boards and commissions’ technology services and support as well as supporting the NS Health Authority and IWK.

About Our Opportunity

 

As a member of the Nova Scotia Business Registry (NSBR) Development Team, you will analyze, design and implement enhancements to existing applications, as well as develop new applications.  You will formulate detailed program specifications, incorporate modifications and enhancements and evaluate and implement solutions to rectify system problems.  You will develop technically and/or logically complex computer programs, fully document systems and ensure conformity with developed program standards.  You may provide specialized technical support to other programmers and members of the user community and may be solely responsible for the development and/or maintenance of small computer systems.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you will have successful completion of an Information Technology Program.

 

You will have excellent communication (both verbal and written), and interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders, in a manner that strengthens and builds the collaborative relationships that are necessary for the continued success of the Nova Scotia Business Registry and supportive applications.  You will possess strong analytical, risk mitigation, change management and project management skills to effectively support and evolve applications. 

 

The following skills, knowledge or experience will help you in this role:

 

Experience in business systems analysis, systems development life cycle methodologies and documenting business requirements.

 

Experience writing complex or technically sophisticated computer programs from specifications prepared personally or by others; creating test data, carrying out comprehensive testing. 

 

Knowledge & experience in the following technologies:  PL/SQL, SQL, Enterprise Reporting Tools such as Crystal Reports or Cognos, Java, J2EE. Knowledge of any of the following would be a definite asset: Mail Merge, SOA, WebServices, ITIL, JSP, XML, POS, Oracle Application Server (OAS), Tomcat/Apache, FileNet, Adobe eForms, AMANDA.  

 

 

Pay Grade:  PR 01 - PR 11  

 

Salary Range:  $1,423.22 - $2,570.87 Bi-Weekly

 

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
