About Our Opportunity

 

As the Database Analyst, you will provide customer focused tier 1 and 2 technical support services in areas related to SQL, Oracle and MySQL database infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include deploying, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, ensuring availability and security of corporate database assets, and resolving database incidents and problems for the Province of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK. You play a key role in supporting the core ITIL Service Support processes to ensure consistent level of services to the users.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you must have graduated from a recognized Information Technology program.

 

You have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients, staff, peers and management. You are a team player with strong negotiation and facilitation skills, well organized, capable of prioritizing and undertaking high level work under tight deadlines, and able to exercise sound judgment under pressure. You will be flexible and adaptable to ever changing priorities while demonstrating initiative. 

 

Relating to MSSQL/Oracle/MySQL (currently supported versions), the following experience or skills will help you in this role:  installation, configuration, operational support, troubleshooting, performing and implementing robust database backup and recovery procedures; managing users, security, tables, indexes and views; monitoring server performance and database health, and taking preventive or corrective actions as required.  You will also have working knowledge of MS Windows Server (currently supported versions) with respect to server installation, configuration and troubleshooting performance.  


The following skills, experience and knowledge would be considered an asset:

 

  • MS Azure – SQL databases, dashboards
  • SQL Server query performance – monitoring, analysis of execution plans
  • SQL Server Analysis Services – installation, configuration and operational support
  • SQL Server Reporting Services - installation, configuration, operational support
  • SQL Server Replication – log shipping, database mirroring
  • Transact-SQL – database creation, modification, operational support jobs, stored procedures, triggers, complex queries
  • Knowledge of the Government of Nova Scotia IT and Security policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia Health Authority’s IT and Security policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a health care or public sector environment
  • Understanding of ITIL standards and processes and how they can be used to improve processes, guidelines and standards

 

Other Considerations

 

May be required to work outside of normal business hours to provide service and be on-call for supported services, including weekends.

 

 

Pay Grade:  PR 01 - PR 11  

 

Salary Range:  $1,423.22 - $2,570.87 Bi-Weekly

 

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
