About Us
As the Chief Executive Office of the Province of Nova Scotia, the Lieutenant Governor carries out a variety of constitutional and ceremonial/community functions which the Office of the Lieutenant Governor facilitates. Government House is the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians and is the location of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. As the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, Government House hosts more than 160 events per year, welcomes more than 14,000 visitors per year and serves as the residence for members of the Royal Family and the Governor General during visits to Nova Scotia.
About Our Opportunity
Under the direction of the Private Secretary/Executive Director the Master Chef will provide meal preparation for Government House for the Lieutenant Governor, Dignitaries and Guests. The Master Chef is the daily planner with regard to the menu items for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Special Occasions.
The Master Chef is also responsible for creating recipes and provides complete food preparation service, including baking, frying, roasting, steaming etc. Administrative duties such as ordering of groceries, cost evaluation, will be part of the Master Chef daily operations. The incumbent must ensure that safety standards and sanitary requirements are met each and every day. On occasion, the Master Chef will be responsible for training casual kitchen staff detailing duties.
The Master Chef will be required to adhere to strict time frames, stand and work for long hours at various times with some heavy lifting. He/She must treat other members of the Government House staff, as well as visitors to Government House, with respect, courtesy, cooperation and professionalism and represent the Office of the Lieutenant Governor with dignity and confidentiality at all times. During Official Visits (Royal Family/VIPs) the Master Chef will be assigned other food related duties as deemed necessary by the Private Secretary/Executive Director. The ability to work variable hours and experience in dealing with senior officials in similar working environments would be considered assets. Flexibility is essential.
Qualifications and Experience
Food Services Supervisor Certificate plus five years experience, or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience. The Master Chef must be creative and display professionalism at all times. They must have solid interpersonal and communications skills and be able to exercise tact, diplomacy and sound judgement while maintaining the confidentiality of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. The Master Chef must be able to work under pressure and have the ability to multitask.
Equivalency

Salary Range: $2,138.76 - $2,234.36 Bi-Weekly
