Regional Medical Officers of Health (RMOH) are accountable for supporting the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and IWK through the provision of leadership and expertise related to the promotion and protection of health and the prevention of disease and injury.  Through inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships, the RMOHs assist in providing leadership in the assessment and measurement of the health of populations and the development of strategies for improving health and well-being through health promotion, disease prevention and health protection initiatives.


The RMOHs are responsible for supporting the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (OCMOH), and where necessary through delegation, in legislated health protection responsibilities.  Under legislation, the RMOHs are responsible for informing, investigating and taking action on any health hazard, notifiable disease or condition, communicable disease or public health emergency that poses a health risk to the population.

Successful candidates for the position of the Medical Officer of Health should be licensable by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and have a fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or other acceptable specialty qualifications). Post-graduate training in public health with public health experience may also be considered. Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for joint appointments with Dalhousie and other Universities in Nova Scotia involved in the public health field.

Salary Range:  $7,576.00 - $8,783.00 Bi-Weekly
