Reporting to the Resource Analysis Group Leader, the Forest Resource Analyst carries out forest model development, analysis, programming and database management. As an expert in forest modelling, the incumbent takes on a leadership role in the update/development of various forest resource modelling and planning processes. The Resource Analyst provides leadership as well as professional and expert technical advice to regional and head office staff, thereby ensuring effective implementation of new modelling approaches. This position will provide the incumbant an opportunity to be creative and take initiative to advance provincial-level initiatives and modelling approaches in support of ecosystem-based forest management.



The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry plus 6 years experience in forest resource modelling or a Masters Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management and 4 years of related experience.


The incumbent will possess expertise in forest-level modeling and extensive experience using the Remsoft Spatial Planning Software (Woodstock, Stanley). They will posses computer programming experience in developing software applications that support forest modeling processes (experience programming within the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET environment and Delphi would be an asset). The incumbent must have experience with relational databases and spatial databases used in forest modeling specifically experience using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Workstation software, and relational database software (Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access, MS FoxPro).


This position also requires the ability to deal with multiple ongoing and complex projects, shifting priorities, and tight time lines. The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and to develop effective working relationships with staff and clients at all levels of government, the public and academic communities.


Experience developing, managing, deploying strategic and tactical level planning models across diverse stakeholder groups would be considered an asset as well as modelling experience related to forest economics, forest policy assessment, forest carbon, forest based bioenergy or climate change.


Pay Grade:  PR 15  


Salary Range:  $2,414.00 - $2,943.00 Bi-Weekly
