About Our Opportunity

 

As the Crown Land Surveyor you are a land management professional, performing technical standard survey work; responsible for the establishment, and maintenance of the boundaries and all other survey related matters with respect to the portion of the 3.8 million acres of Crown Land administered by the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables that lie within their respective district. 

Primary Accountabilities

 

Some of the primary accountabilities in this role include: 

 

  • Serving as the region’s land management professional, managing the Crown Land Survey Program including all professional survey services and related administrative services for a large geographic area of the province.
  • Overseeing multiple routine survey projects of considerable scope and variety with numerous complications, including the researching of historical information, collection and processing of field data, preparation of legal survey plan, reports, property descriptions, and project cost records.
  • Overseeing maintenance of survey and office equipment, supplies, and vehicles to ensure staff is adequately equipped to deliver the Survey Program.
  • Conducting research on land ownership at Registry of Deeds, Land Information Centres, other government departments and agencies, private legal survey, and engineering firms.
  • Certifying survey plans with respect to their accuracy and compliance with legislation and is legally responsible for all certified standard surveys. 
  • Administer multiple survey contracts for work done on Crown Land.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be a right opportunity for you if you have a Bachelor degree or diploma from a recognized survey program approved by the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors. Registered as a Candidate Member of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors and pursuing Active Membership status with the Association.

 

As the ideal candidate you possess significant initiative, exercise sound judgement, and bring creativeness to your work to determine needs and priorities for the Survey Program and to incorporate goals for these into the work plan. Attention to detail is essential in this role to ensure and certify boundaries of Crown Land are accurately located. 

 

Strong communication (written and verbal) and relationship building skills is essential to work with both internal and external stakeholders. 

 

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

 

Work within an office environment.

Long periods of time outdoors in all types of extreme weather in areas often accessible only by long walks.

Occasionally will be required to travel to remote areas by helicopter, snowmobile, ATV, boat or canoe.

You are registered as a Candidate Member of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors and pursuing Active Membership status with the Association, or are a commissioned Member of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors with two years related experience.

Pay Grade:  PR 07 - PR 13  

Salary Range:  $2,004.96 - $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
