About Our Opportunity

This GIS technical lead role supports government operations and external clients by developing and maintaining geographic data products, conducting advanced cartography and spatial analysis, and ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of provincial geospatial information. Reporting to the Geomatics Administrator – Program Lead, the GIS Analyst plays a key role in shaping how geographic data is used for decision-making across sectors.

Qualifications and Experience

The incumbent must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant geomatics field, plus 5 years related experience OR graduation from an approved technical school in the field of geomatics (equivalent to a 2-year diploma) plus a minimum of 8 years related experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

The ideal candidate must have expert training and be proficient in Geomatics, Geomatics applications and database design.  Our team works with the Esri suite of software; therefore, expert knowledge of Esri software and tools, as well as geographic data and principles, is required. The Analyst works in a complex digital environment, prioritizing, assigning, scheduling, and monitoring work while resolving conflicts related to the maintenance, quality assurance, and distribution of various provincial geomatics datasets. Good interpersonal skills are required, along with the ability to participate in a team environment and maintain relationships with a diverse range of clients, stakeholders, government departments and agencies, as well as First Nation representatives. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and able to work under pressure, managing multiple projects with changing resources and priorities to meet static and dynamic deadlines.  Oversight and execution of externally contracted specialized work to meet the business’s goals.  Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to deliver presentations at public meetings and work collaboratively with a diverse range of users of geographic information.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong scripting skills for efficiency and automation, using tools such as Python, or other programming languages.  They will identify opportunities to promote the benefits of Geomatics in government and business. An understanding of the Department’s corporate geographic databases and project management skills is considered an asset.

 

This role requires strong competencies in Analytical Thinking, Strategic Planning, Initiative, Communication, Technological Adaptability, and Project Management.

Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time employment opportunity based in Amherst, Nova Scotia. The position location is at the Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre based in Amherst. The successful candidate will need to regularly commute to the office.

Pay Grade:  PR 13  

Salary Range:  $2,556.10 - $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
