About Our Opportunity


Under the Agricultural Marshland Conservation Act, NSDA is legislated to supervise and manage the agricultural dykeland assets for agricultural purposes. The agricultural dykelands consist of 240 kilometres of dyke and 250 aboiteaux along the Bay of Fundy and protects 16,000 hectares of land located on 81 agricultural marshlands and 10 water control structures (dams). This Dykeland System protects agricultural land, but also protects significant private and public non-agriculture infrastructure that are vital to the economy and security of the Province.

Primary Accountabilities


  • Conduct and schedule Operational and Maintenance Program work of the Dykeland System through supervision of seasonal staff in Cumberland County;
  • Conduct and document inspections and repairs of dykes and aboiteaux structures.  For example, repairing aboiteau gates and removing debris from flood control structures which support the structural integrity of the dyke
  • Operating, servicing, maintaining and repairing equipment and structures (fabrication of parts, minor welding, basic construction);
  • Experience following and contributing to OHS program, including documentation;
  • Cutting and trimming trees and brush using chainsaws, gas powered trimmers and hand pruners to maintain drainage ditches and aboiteau structures;
  • Application of herbicide and deciduous tree control using back pack sprayers and boom sprayer;
  • Operation of farm tractors for mowing, raking, seeding dykes and marshlands and practical knowledge of working with heavy equipment;
  • Work in varying weather conditions and wet/cold environments

Qualifications and Experience


  • Grade 12 with a minimum 4 years field construction experience, including supervisory skills;
  • Construction Technician diploma or related post-secondary training would be an asset.

Working Conditions


  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion

  • This is a permanent, seasonal position from May until early November annually
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of working in tidal conditions

Pay Grade:  MOS 10  

Salary Range:  $1,651.10 - $1,689.83 Bi-Weekly
