About Our Opportunity

 

The Agricultural Summer Student is an integral part of the Nova Scotia Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission team. They are responsible for providing assistance in the delivery of crop and livestock insurance and wildlife compensation. The position would also involve some administrative support functions related to our programs.

Primary Accountabilities

 

As the successful candidate, some of your primary accountabilities will include:

  • Monitoring and inspecting crop fields to evaluate the presence of damage and observe management practices.
  • Conducting yield verifications.
  • Inspecting wildlife damage to crops and livestock.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be the successful candidate, you will be enrolled in and returning to an agricultural post secondary program with experience or education in crop production or pest management. A strong agricultural experience while attending a non-agricultural post secondary education may be considered. You must have a drivers license and your own vehicle.

  • Knowledge of management practices involved in the growing of crops and animal husbandry.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate confident client interactions.
  • You must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in collaboration with the team.

Working Conditions

 

Most of your time is spent working outdoor in field setting involving travel over rough terrain and sometimes in remote locations.

Candidates must have a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle

Additional Information

 

This is a summer student position with an estimated start date of May 2, 2025 and end date of August 8, 2025.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $15.73 - $29.69 Hourly
