About Our Opportunity

As Plant Protection Coordinator you will be responsible to provide expertise and assessment on a wide range of plant and pest issues relating to agricultural production. This will include program development and delivery in support of integrated pest management including risk assessments, surveillance and monitoring, and education to prevent and / or minimize impacts associated with the introduction and spread of pests of concern to agriculture. Also, you will assist in other Animal and Crop Services projects. 


Primary Accountabilities

In this position you will provide advice and guidance related to integrated pest management, agronomy and horticulture to government and agriculture stakeholders. You will be responsible to work collaboratively with specialists, regulators, industry partners and government(s) to facilitate development of strategies, tools and decision support systems to mitigate risk respecting agricultural pests.

Qualifications and Experience

You will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. You are eligible for membership in the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists (NSIA) and a Valid Driver’s License. 

As the successful candidate, you have extensive knowledge of the agriculture sector and understand the Department’s goals and how they connect to industry. Experience in Plant Science or a related field, plant pest identification and plant disease diagnosis skills, and knowledge of agronomic and horticultural practices are considered assets. 

This position will require you to have strong analytical thinking, action management, effective communications, initiative, outcome focused, and partnership and relationship building skills

Salary Information

PR 06 - PR 12 

$1,796.04 - $2,782.95
