About Our Opportunity

As a Pathology Veterinarian with the Department of Agriculture, you will provide rapid, competent and efficient disease diagnosis and consultation to livestock producers, agribusiness, practicing veterinarians, and other government agencies. These areas include:  provincial meat inspection, health, natural resources, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, law enforcement and humane societies.

Primary Accountabilities

Within this role, you can expect to: 

  • Perform post mortem examinations,
  • Select and interpret ancillary diagnostic tests,
  • Interpret surgical biopsy and communicate the results to clients.


You will take part in activities that safeguard animal health with your active participation in disease programs and reducing the impact of animal diseases on livestock. In addition, you will play a pivotal role in addressing issues related to best management practices within the livestock industry.

Qualifications and Experience


  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent) degree
  • Minimum successful completion of 2 years post graduate training in veterinary anatomic pathology
  • Eligible for general practice license by the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association

Working Conditions


  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion

Additional Information


This is a Term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of August 5, 2022. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  PR 14 - PR 19  

Salary Range:  $2,488.52 - $3,713.74 Bi-Weekly
