About Us


The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for adult offenders and young persons.

Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: community corrections & correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.

 

About Our Opportunity


Under the direct supervision of the Nutritional Services Manager, the Food Services Supervisor is accountable for production and delivery of food services to persons in custody, patients, staff and visitors to the Correctional Facility and oversees menu preparation, following Canada’s Food Guide offering attractive nutritionally sound meals.

The Food Services Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and daily operation of food production, ordering  & inventory control, meal assembly, dish room and all sanitation functions within the food services operations, including inventory control. Responsible for the quality control functions related to sanitation, safe food handling practices and safe practice standards of cleaning supplies within the department. Supervise cooks and cooks helpers, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards, stand operations and assigned duties. The Food Services Supervisor regularly reviews food and supply contracts to ensure all updates are made to current inventory maintenance and proper food and supply contacts are being utilized.  In conjunction with the cooks is responsible for the oversite of the persons in custody working in Food Services which includes any issues of discipline and required documentation.  Helps with filling staff shifts and managing requests for time off. Provides regular updates and reports to the Nutritional Services Manager. 

 

About You


You have completed a Certified Food Services Supervisor’s program and at least 6 years of supervisory experience in an institutional setting. A combination of other training and experience may be considered an acceptable equivalent.

During the interview, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively manage staff and persons in custody.  The ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgement in sometimes stressful situations is also required.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions


Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
May be required to work overtime on occasion.

Pay Grade:  ACC 05  

Salary Range:  $2,522.80 - $2,672.48 Bi-Weekly
