The Park Caretaker reports directly to the Area/District Supervisor or designate as specified. As the Park Caretaker, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the designated Day Use Park(s) including: all infrastructure, vehicles, grounds and equipment.
Primary Accountabilities
You will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and department policies.
- Actively participating in the implementation of departmental OH&S Policy and Programs.
- Providing visitor information.
- Monitoring park activities for regulation compliance.
- Advising visitors of park regulations and reporting non-compliance to conservation officers.
Qualifications and Experience
This could be the right job for you if you have the following skills and experience:
- Two (2) years of related experience, which can include:
- General carpentry, building and grounds maintenance, general machine maintenance.
- Use of tractors, ride-on mowers, push mowers, string trimmers and hand and power tools.
- Valid NS Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
- Valid (Standard) First Aid Certificate and WHMIS training.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements.
- Customer service training.
- Training, experience in or demonstrated ability for ensuring compliance of Regulations in a public setting; and
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to generally work alone, as well as performing strenuous manual tasks in an outdoor environment. Duties often require working irregularly scheduled hours, weekends, evenings and holidays. Participation in department training related to the duties of this position is required.
Frequent work outside in all environmental conditions including heat, cold, wet, dry, fog, dust, bugs, wind, etc.

There is one (1) permanent seasonal opportunity available in Debert. The seasonal term of 4 to 6 months is expected to end on November 18, 2025.

Pay Grade: MOS 07
Salary Range: $1,645.29 - $1,686.75 Bi-Weekly
