The Labour Standards team is responsible for the Labour Standards Code and related regulations, which set out the basic rights and responsibilities of provincially regulated employers and workers in Nova Scotia.  The legislation also establishes a licensing and registration framework to protect vulnerable foreign workers recruited for employment in Nova Scotia. 

 

We help people understand and comply with our legislation and provide a fair, accessible and responsive dispute resolution system.

About Our Opportunity

 

You will report to the Director of Labour Standards and provide administrative support to the entire Labour Standards team. 

 

You will work in a collaborative and fast paced environment and will carry out the day-to-day administrative functions with minimal direction.  Relying on a high level of concentration, patience, and attention to detail, you will deal with a variety of activities and a significant volume of work, much of which involves confidential material and is time sensitive.  Your work will be critical to the efficient and effective operations of the office.  

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Responsible for a significant volume of data entry ensuring complaints and applications for recruiter licenses and employer registrations are accurately captured in our system in a timely manner.     
  • Help process recruiter licence, employer registration and variance applications, and will respond to inquiries in relation to the application process over the phone and by email.
  • Responsible for general secretarial duties such as scheduling meetings, coordinating administrative activities, ordering supplies, processing invoices, running expenditure reports, maintaining filing systems, scanning documents and processing mail.

Qualifications and Experience

 

This might be the right opportunity for you if you have completion of a one-year business course plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

 

You have advanced skills in MS Office Products, including Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.  You have excellent data entry, proofreading and grammatical skills. You are conscientious about and accurate with your work and have well developed prioritization, time management and organizational skills to effectively manage competing priorities in a busy work environment. 

 

You are a critical thinker, self-directed learner and problem solver who takes initiative to identify opportunities to improve the way things are done.  You consistently maintain a respectful, professional, and courteous disposition with colleagues and clients.  You demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to, equity, diversity, and inclusion.  You are a flexible and adaptable team player with strong interpersonal, communication and administration skills. 

 

Assets for this position include:

 

  • Familiarity with business structures and the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stock Companies
  • Experience with records management

This is a Temporary employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of May 24, 2022. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $1,579.09 - $1,766.79 Bi-Weekly
