About Us


As the Chief Executive Officer of the Province of Nova Scotia, the Lieutenant Governor carries out a variety of constitutional and ceremonial/community functions which the Office of the Lieutenant Governor facilitates. Government House is the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians and is the location of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. As the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, Government House hosts more than 160 events per year, welcomes more than 14,000 visitors per year and serves as the residence for members of the Royal Family and the Governor General during visits to Nova Scotia.

About Our Opportunity

 

As an Administrative Assistant at Government house, you will have the opportunity to work under our Executive Assistant in a fast-paced, public facing environment.

 

You will also occasionally be called upon to offer guided tours or assist with events hosted by the Lieutenant Governor. This position is also responsible to perform other functions including general administrative duties.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Within this role, you can expect to:

 

  • Compose correspondence from the Lieutenant Governor and the Private Secretary,
  • manage and administer the Lieutenant Governor’s Congratulatory Certificate Program
  • manage the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s database, 
  • provide courteous reception services for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House to all visitors,
  • direct callers and answer questions as appropriate, and
  • act as the SAP Coordinator for the office. 

Qualifications and Experience

You have a one-year business course and some experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

As the successful candidate, you have strong organizational skills, the ability to be flexible and multi-task to meet deadlines as well as possess strong initiative, good judgment, interpersonal and leadership skills. You work well independently with minimum supervision, as well as while contributing to a team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal is mandatory to enable preparation of correspondence and responses to inquiries. Proficiency in typing, proof-reading is essential as is a comprehensive knowledge of computer applications such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and filing/retrieval systems.

 

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Adaptability and Flexibility, Attention to Detail, Client Orientation, Effective Interactive Communication, Initiative, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a TEMPORARY opportunity with an anticipated end date of August 8, 2025. However, the position status (“term”, “temporary” or “casual”) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  EC 03 

Salary Range:  $1,687.11 - $2,108.89 Bi-Weekly
