The Corporate Policy and Services Branch of the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration is the department’s primary link with broader government. The Branch helps ensure the department aligns with and adheres to government policies, priorities, and processes, and in turn supports government decision-making. The Policy and Planning division plays a lead role in supporting corporate policy initiatives, including business planning, the development of legislation, regulations and policies (including submissions to Executive Council), and coordination of issues management activities for the department including weekly Minister and Deputy Minister Policy Briefings.

About Our Opportunity

 

As the Briefing Coordinator in the Policy and Planning division you are responsible for providing a wide range of moderately complex office support to the Director and divisional staff. A primary focus will be on preparing ministerial and deputy ministerial agendas and briefing materials along with supporting the routine day-to-day operational management of the division by serving as a resource for the Director and staff. You will contribute to the development of process improvements/standards.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Your responsibilities will also include but are not limited to:

 

  • Identify urgent items for the attention of the Director or others.
  • Develop and prepare professional presentations and reports on behalf of the Director.
  • Coordinate meetings and events.
  • Act as the primary backup to the Executive Director's Administrative Assistant for the Corporate Policy and Services Branch.

Qualifications and Experience

 

As the successful candidate you will have a one-year commercial course supplemented by two years of administrative experience preferably in a professional setting, an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

 

You demonstrate a strong client focus and possess excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills  when establishing  relationships with a variety of internal and external clients, including other levels of government. You may at times work independently and be part of a team-based environment, providing support to other team members, while valuing an inclusive environment. You exercise professional discretion, establish effective working relationships with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.

 

This position requires experience composing letters, reports and presentations and an ability to balance multiple priorities under tight deadlines with a strong eye for attention to detail to ensure accuracy, with demonstrated skills in organization and prioritization.  You also have experience coordinating and organizing meetings.

 

Proven proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and is clearly demonstrated in your resume.

This competition is used to fill a Full time - temporary position. 

 

Please note, this is expected to be a temporary status position with an end date of April 1, 2022; however the position status (“term”, “temporary” or “casual”)  is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $1,407.60 - $1,532.16 Bi-Weekly
