About Our Opportunity


Under direction from the Manager of Workforce Development, the incumbent provides comprehensive clerical support services, office management, and complex functions related to the smooth operation of the Workforce and Classification unit. The incumbent is responsible for receiving all classification applications, ensuring complete applications, corresponding with applicants on missing pieces, and creating a file for the classification application to be reviewed. In addition, provides operational support to the unit and supports day to day administrative tasks as required by the Workforce and Classification unit.

Primary Accountabilities


  • Processes and coordinates all classification applications ensuring the application is complete and ready for program staff to review. Receives close to 2500 applications a year from applicants within NS, throughout Canada and internationally. 
  • Receives all Continuing Education Funding applications, ensures completeness of application, enters into database and sends onto program staff.
  • Process, coordinates and manages financial administrative and financial procedures for the unit, e.g., cheque requisitions, purchase orders, arranging for couriers, and preparing documents.
  • Provides accurate, timely and efficient support (administrative and organizational) to the unit staff. This includes timely response to phone and email enquiries about classification. Maintains and updates unit records. Responsible for the retrieval, retention, storage and disposition, and classification of division records.
  • Maintains and improves the classification website supporting the Workforce Manager.
  • Manages classification databases
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience


This may be the right opportunity for you if you have completed high school with 4 years of related experience, an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.


You thrive working in a fast-paced environment demonstrating sound judgement and initiative, with strong interpersonal skills along with a client-centered focus and ability to communicate with all levels of staff, both internally and externally with stakeholders and the general-public. You are comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. You effectively multi-task and approach your work with objectivity and confidentiality. You possess exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) with experience in Microsoft Office programs (WordPerfect, Excel, Outlook etc.). You have demonstrated experience interpreting and analyzing data.

Please note, this is expected to be a term status position with an end date of December 31, 2023; however the position status (“term”, “temporary” or “casual”)  is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  CL 22  

Salary Range:  $1,813.71 - $2,006.07 Bi-Weekly
