The Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner receives, manages, and oversees complaints about the conduct of municipal police officers.

 

About Our Opportunity

 

As the Intake Clerk, you are the frontline contact for the public providing information on the police complaints process. You are responsible for seeking clarification or additional information from complainants about their complaints and are responsible for preparing letters and maintaining the manual file.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • receive and direct correspondence to the appropriate staff member.
  • prepare form letters.
  • enter data into an existing database.
  • order office supplies.
  • code invoices and send for payment.
  • provide administrative support for the office.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

As the successful candidate, you have four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

You have excellent written and oral communication skills along with an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. You demonstrate sound judgement and an ability to adapt to a fast changing environment. You are able to handle difficult conversations.

 

You have knowledge of the Nova Scotia Police Act and Regulations regarding the complaint process, along with general knowledge of government programs and policies. You demonstrate a knowledge of filing systems and specialized document management systems such as STAR/STOR and FileNet.  You have a good working knowledge of computer software and equipment, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. You have the ability to translate complex information into plain language and are respectful of cultural differences.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a 50% part-time Term position based in Halifax, Nova Scotia with an anticipated end date of January 4, 2024. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

 

Due to potential conflicts, the candidate must not be an immediate family member of a municipal police officer.

Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $789.50 - $883.39 Bi-Weekly
