About Our Opportunity


As Director you are accountable to the Commissioner and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) for leading strategic analysis and the provision of advice on corporate human resources priorities and plans. This includes leading strategic, broad based planning, stakeholder consultations, representing the PSC on federal, provincial and territorial committees, evidence-based policy, development of legislative and regulatory agendas and frameworks. You will ensure the PSC’s strategies are aligned with government’s human resource agenda for the public service, helping to ensure government has the human resources needed to achieve its priorities and effectively deliver services to Nova Scotians.


The Director also leads corporate planning and reporting requirements including leading the development and review of all submissions to Executive Council as well as being accountable to ensure the PSC fulfills its corporate reporting requirements including business planning and accountability reporting, and its mandated French language services coordinating responsibilities.


About You


You will have a Bachelor’s degree with a focus on policy or public administration along with demonstrated experience in policy analysis, operational planning, legislation development and preparing reports and briefing materials.


You will be a demonstrated leader, team player, well organized, capable of prioritizing and delegating high level work under tight timelines, and able to exercise sound judgement under pressure. 


This position requires advanced knowledge of the concepts, theories and techniques of policy, planning and extensive knowledge of corporate policy development, decision making and accountability framework / structure of the Nova Scotia Government to lead corporate policy research, development, analysis and implementation and develop policy advice for the PSC. The position also requires an in-depth knowledge of the roles of Cabinet, Treasury and Policy Board and other central agencies to coordinate government wide HR policy development / review processes.


Demonstrated experience communicating at various levels, both verbal and written, within an organization is a must.


An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Pay Grade:  EC 14 


Salary Range:  $3,530.85 - $4,413.57 Bi-Weekly
