The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables manages and promotes energy and mineral resources to achieve optimum economic, social, and environmental value from these sectors. The Subsurface Energy Development Branch of the Department provides leadership, strategic direction, research, and innovation for building subsurface energy regimes in onshore and offshore Nova Scotia.  Subsurface energy responsibilities include establishing resource and economic potential for development while ensuring responsible resource stewardship. The Department manages these resources through legislation, regulations, market assessments, and cross-jurisdiction relationships for energy development.

 

About Our Opportunity

 

As the Director, Subsurface Energy Development you will provide leadership and effective strategic direction for the development and delivery of program initiatives and measures that support responsible energy resource development and that capitalize on innovation and opportunity to responsibly promote the sector while exercising responsible stewardship.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

In this role you are the primary face of government to the Subsurface energy sector and sub-sectors and will be highly visible, both externally and internally, leading consultations and strategic dialogue with policy partners and senior stakeholder representatives in support of efforts to advance and strengthen the province's energy industry sector, contributing to the development of the provincial economy.  You will work closely with the Business Development and Strategic Opportunities Branch to develop policy options in terms of promoting and advancing economic development and enhancing ability to attract energy resource industries to Nova Scotia and to compete globally; and to take an integrated and strategic approach for setting, management and attraction of energy developments.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

As the successful applicant you will have a minimum of a bachelors degree in a relevant discipline (Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Engineering) and a number of years of progressive leadership experience, including several years in a senior leadership role and demonstrated experience in research, planning, project management, critical thinking and analysis are a must.

Working Conditions

 

This position is based in Halifax and will require frequent travel throughout Nova Scotia, Canada and internationally.

The applicant should be current or eligible for a Professional Designation as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) through the appropriate registered Nova Scotia Associations.

Pay Grade:  EC 14 

Salary Range:  $4,075.74 - $5,106.37 Bi-Weekly
