Your Role and Its Impact


This role demands a collaborative senior leader who can build strong relationships across the organization and is able to work in a highly networked way. 


As the Director, Data Strategy you will be responsible for:

  • Defining, delivering, and publishing a data strategy for all of government
  • Collaborating to develop the supporting standards, processes, platforms, governance, and policies to enable the organization to properly acquire, store, manage, share, and use data.
  • Working through ambiguity to build out and communicate NSDS’s role and added value to the data environment in the province.
  • Partnering to build digital data capability and capacity across NSDS and the whole of government.
  • Partnering to drive the organizational culture change needed to meet government outcomes in the internet-era
  • Being a leader in fostering a continuous improvement environment
  • Design and implement relevant Communities of Practices both inside and outside of government to enable data strategy outcomes.

How you can make an impact


The NSDS provides a horizontal, system-wide view of the enabling conditions that need to be in place to support individual departments and ecosystems (Health, Justice, Education) to leverage citizens data to deliver better more efficient services, make informed decisions, and drive transparency.


Reporting to the Executive Director, Digital Culture, Strategy and Performance your role will be to:


  • Deliver and implement a whole of government strategy that guides and enables how services may be improved and/or delivered in the future. ​
  • Develop data policies and standards for ethical, democratic, transparent, and socially responsible practices​ that align with the Nova Scotia Digital Strategy
  • Build and empower teams to use internet-era ways of working, keep a strong focus on delivery priorities, be accountable for delivery, and act swiftly to respond to changing requirements.
  • Work collaboratively to identify opportunities for innovation and increasing value.
  • Positively influence and partner with senior strategic partners to develop horizontal, aligned strategies and frameworks that support the province's digital strategy and data goals.
  • Work collaboratively to exchange best practice, develop cross-government strategic direction, and deliver excellent user-centered services for the whole of government.
  • Be responsible for the financial position of the service, department, and wider government context, promoting and visibly demonstrating a culture of value for money.

Pay Grade:  EC 14 

Salary Range:  $3,804.02 - $5,230.52 Bi-Weekly
