The department collaborates with Crown corporations and special operating entities to facilitate common understanding and alignment to create a dynamic environment for inclusive economic success.  We also work with other government departments and levels of government, post secondary institutions and the private and social enterprise sectors to achieve shared growth objectives.

About Our Opportunity

 

This is one of two Executive Director positions in the Department of Inclusive Economic Growth providing advice to the Deputy Minister with forward-thinking approaches for the strategic direction and priorities of the department; and providing advice and informed insight on key sector and organizational issues and opportunities. 


As the executive lead on policy and planning, you will provide a broad, strategic, cross-departmental perspective ensuring coordinated horizontal policy and planning with efficiently aligned resources to strengthen capacity and performance for delivering on government priorities.  

 

In this role you will report to the Associate Deputy Minister. 

Primary Accountabilities

 

As the Executive Director, Policy and Planning you will lead:

 

  • The advancement of strategic priorities of government through knowledge and expertise in emerging public policy, practises, and trends relevant to inclusive economic growth.
  • Integrated strategic policy, projects and initiatives related to an inclusive economic growth agenda.
  • The development of the departments’ research and analytical capacity, business planning, and strategic plans.
  • the development of clear data analytics, performance management and accountability frameworks, which measure and monitor the department’s performance in all areas outlined within the business plan and/or Statement of Mandate and ensures all corporate accountability and reporting requirements are met.
  • Internal and stakeholder communications and outreach including ensuring stakeholder engagement in the development of existing and proposed Crown, legislative, regulatory and/or policy initiatives.
  • Preparation of the Minister's regular briefing agenda and prepares timely, relevant, well researched briefing materials for the Minister, Deputy Minister and other senior staff which effectively present the key issues and recommendations respecting current or anticipated issues of public interest or concern
  • Timely coordination and liaison with Executive Council Office, Finance and Treasury Board, and the Office of Strategy Management with respect to the Cabinet and legislative submission of the department, TCA requests and ABC appointments.

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a  Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline coupled with considerable years of progressive management experience in a related field with several years at a senior level (or acceptable equivalent).

 

As the ideal candidate you have previous experience establishing and leading a professional, capable, and competent division through effective deployment and utilization of all financial, human and material resources. You also have previous experience promoting employee engagement through the development of initiatives that stimulate workplace development and encourage employee engagement and commitment, leveraging value in every way it is achievable and avoiding waste of time, resources and funding and growing leadership capacity that supports a healthy, constructive work environment, balancing the leadership of deliverables and work and those of individuals who comprise the team

 

You bring a strategic approach to your work, ensuring the work of the Department is aligned to governmental priorities.  You have exceptional communication (written/verbal) and relationship building skills to foster collaboration with stakeholders and partners to ensure the department is building vibrant, innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystems based on the comparative advantages of each economic region. 

 

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are:

Decisiveness, Strategic Orientation, Change Leadership, Team Leadership, Effective Interactive Communication, Self-Awareness and Personal Impact, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

Pay Grade:  EC 16 

Salary Range:  $4,976.46 - $6,234.89 Bi-Weekly
