Your Role & Its Impact


As the Executive Director User-Centred Technology and Cyber Security you will be responsible for: 


  • NSDS’ work on transitioning from legacy technology to a modern hosting and operations infrastructure that enables digital teams to continuously improve and deliver, and
  • Establishing an internet-era, user-centered, and resilient security program and culture that equips teams to develop and run secure public services.


You will be responsible for bringing high-quality technological capability into government to drive the transformation that enables next generation digital public services, and high-quality working environments for public servants. 

How you can make an impact


  • Collaborate with the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and the NSDS executive team to develop and deliver on the Digital, Data and Technology Strategies.
  • Develop and implement transformation projects to drive cost efficiencies and increased automation across all infrastructure technical disciplines, including but not limited to: 
    • data center rationalization 
    • migration to the Cloud 
    • software defined networks 
    • oversee the Operations Center (network and security), 
  • Provide strategic vision and advocacy for internet-era IT security and develop, implement, and support a human centered, multidisciplinary approach to cyber security.
  • Lead, manage and direct the development and implementation of a cyber security program for government and the broader public sector.
  • Build a strong team of engaged, internet-era technology, servant leaders. Empower them to use internet-era ways of working, keep a strong focus on delivery priorities, be accountable for delivery, and act swiftly to respond to changing requirements.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to exchange best practice, develop cross-government strategic direction, and deliver excellent user-centered services for the whole of government.
  • Be responsible for the financial position of the service, department, and wider government context, promoting and visibly demonstrating a culture of value for money.

What You Bring To The Table


  • Your ability to: 
    • coach, inspire and educate executives about the opportunities and pitfalls of technology transformation 
    • build collaborative high performing teams that can apply and scale internet-era ways of working
    • develop team capability and upskilling them to deliver human centered, secure, digital public services
    • exhibit political acumen in managing and communicating with multiple stakeholders including senior government officials or the likes


  • Your experience in: 
    • internet-era practices, and ability to effectively engage with multidisciplinary teams to achieve business/policy outcomes 
    • security engineering and experience in user centered and product management approaches to ensuring the secure delivery of services 
    • managing and improving service operations. Within an infrastructure organization in a 24x7 mission-critical enterprise environment would be considered an asset
    • working with major cloud frameworks (for example: AWS, Azure, etc.), modern network management solutions; utility or commoditized hosting environments; and cloud-based procurement
    • creation and implementation of cyber security policies and practices and demonstrated understanding & commitment to user centered cyber security practices, internet-era modern programming languages, development stacks, orchestration frameworks, cloud-based platforms and microservice frameworks.
    • innovative approaches to sourcing services

Additional Information

While this position is based in Halifax, travel throughout the province will be required periodically.

Pay Grade:  EC 16 

Salary Range:  $4,976.46 - $6,234.89 Bi-Weekly
