About Our Opportunity

 

As the Financial Services Officer 2 you have a sound working knowledge of all aspects of accounting, procurement, finance, and on departmental procedures and policies.

 

As the Financial Services Officer 2 you will independently monitor and provide timely analysis, financial advice and recommendations related to the financial position and accounting functions for the Department of Public Works including the reporting of complex federal/provincial/municipal cost shared programs.

 

This position reports to the Coordinator, Financial Advisory Services.

Primary Accountabilities

 

The Financial Services Officer’s 2 primary responsibilities include:

 

  • Independently monitor and provide timely analysis, financial advice and recommendations related to the reporting of complex federal/provincial/municipal cost shared programs.
  • Work as part of a team to enforce accountability and controls, ensuring integrity of claims processing, and financial analysis, and providing accurate and timely information to support department and provincial goals.
  • Performs detailed reconciliations and maintenance of various balance sheet accounts to support monthly and year-end accounting functions for financial advisory services.
  • Administers the general accounting function including interpretative financial and comparative analysis of contract records and progress payments.
  • Provides summary of financial information and interpretive analysis required by Senior Management-providing advice and updates related to timing and status of departmental expenditures and revenue.

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have completed high school and 3 years of post secondary professional accounting training and have 5 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

 

As the ideal candidate you have sound working knowledge and experience of all aspects of accounting, procurement, finance, and policies; you can utilize complex spreadsheet applications, prepare reports, and handle administrative details. 

 

You possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team and are guided by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as Public Sector Account Board (PSAB) in your work. You possess exceptional time management skills and are detail orientated. You have strong communication (written and verbal) and relationship building skills and values a diverse and inclusive workforce. You are detail oriented and proficient using computer applications (Microsoft office, Excel, email, etc.) and demonstrated judgement and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in SAP or other ERP system is essential.

 

Current enrollment in a professional accounting program (CPA) would be considered assets.

Additional Information


This is a TERM employment opportunity with anticipated end date of June 30, 2025.  The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  TE 22  

Salary Range:  $2,189.32 - $2,574.66 Bi-Weekly
