Are you ready to take on a technical role that directly contributes to building climate resilience in Nova Scotia?

 

As a GIS Officer supporting the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Program you’ll play a key role in a transformative initiative addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. This program, funded through the Federal Hazard Identification and Mapping Program, is creating comprehensive flood hazard maps for Nova Scotia’s watersheds and coastlines. These maps will guide climate adaptation efforts and influence critical policies empowering municipalities to take effective action.

Primary Accountabilities

You will contribute to the success of this critical initiative by:

  • Supporting the collection and maintenance of spatial data for flood mapping
  • Contributing to multiple concurrent projects while adhering to Federal and Provincial data and meta data requirements
  • Collaborating with experts and the Project Lead and Program Manager to update and refine the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Documents
  • Reviewing project deliverables to ensure they align with the requirements
  • Developing GIS applications in conjunction with GeoNova to store and disseminate data to stakeholders and the public

Qualifications and Experience

You bring technical expertise and have graduated from an approved GIS technical school in the field of GIS. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

You must demonstrate

  • Experience working on complex projects and managing large volumes of spatial data
  • Problem-solving and expertise in geospatial processing
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in managing data and metadata

 

Assets include

  • Experience in environmental-related projects, particularly in hazard mapping
  • Knowledge of municipal and/or provincial government structures
  • Experience with developing story maps and other tools designed for spatial data communication

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools written examinations, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks

Working Conditions

Your typical work week is 35 hours with 7-hour days.

 

This role involves stringent deadlines and may require after-hours work as operations  You will working a comfortable office setting while in the office.

Additional Information

This is a TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2028.  The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  PR 01 - PR 10  

Salary Range:  $1,587.24 - $2,760.42 Bi-Weekly
