The Internal Audit Centre is an independent and objective assurance and consulting function established to add value to government operations.  We provide various consulting functions to evaluate and improve risk management, internal controls, and governance processes. About Our Opportunity


In accordance with the standards established by the Institute of Internal Auditors, you are accountable for providing internal auditing services to government departments and associated agencies, boards and commissions.


Primary Accountabilities


As part of your role, you:


  • Perform research for audit planning, attend and document client meetings and prepare system and process documentation.
  • Develop and perform audit testing procedures to evaluate processes and internal controls for efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Analyse, interpret, and present data using technology tools and techniques.
  • Identify internal control and process gaps, issues and risks.
  • Develop recommendations to help clients achieve their departmental objectives efficiently.
  • Maintain records of results using audit software (TeamMate); and
  • Assist in the preparation of draft reports and follow up on report recommendations.


In this role you will maintain a focus and interest in continued professional development, including attendance at seminars, membership in professional associations, self-learning, and sharing of information with other accounting/auditing entities. You will be committed to continuous learning and keeping pace with evolving technology to meet the needs of organizations in the internet era.  This includes things like exploring agile ways of working, how to communicate and collaborate with our clients virtually, data analytics and visualization, and effective ways of presenting information.


Qualifications and Experience


This is an entry-level position, and we welcome a wide range of applicants with various educational backgrounds and work experiences.



To be successful in this role, you must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as, Accounting/Auditing, Finance, Statistics/Data Science, Computer Science and/or Information/Business Management.


You must have strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), and discretion working with confidential information.  Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) are required.


The following will be considered an asset:


  • relevant previous experience in internal auditing, finance, accounting, project management, risk management, IT or data analytics;
  • a professional accounting designation recognized by CPA Canada;
  • a professional audit certification  (e.g. CIA, CISA); and/or
  • a relevant master’s degree (e.g. MBA, MPA).


Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Adaptability and Flexibility, Attention to Detail, Outcome Focus, Effective Interactive Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  EC 07 

Salary Range:  $2,147.26 - $2,684.09 Bi-Weekly
