Internal Services supports the public sector as it delivers programs and services that Nova Scotians rely on.   We deliver services to government and beyond by processing a million financial transactions each year, auditing government operations, optimizing information and technology, managing major purchases for the public sector and helping public bodies administer the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act and the Records Act.

About our Opportunity

 

The Application Support team within ICTS provides business solutions through the application of information technologies for our business clients. We work with our business partners to align their business requirements with the appropriate technology solutions. There are several initiatives requiring the need for an intern Computer Programmer / Developer to join our team to meet the demand of the workload.  Specifically, we are looking for an intern with .Net training.

 

As the Junior Programmer/Developer, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and support of computer applications and/or the identification and recommendation of appropriate business solutions/technologies in accordance with government or departmentally prescribed standards, guidelines, methodologies and procedures.  You will be part of a team that is responsible for application design and development activities and defect resolution identified in computer applications, be they with software, data, or the environment. 

 

About You

 

To be successful in this internship, you will have graduated within the past 3 years from a University or Community College, as well, you will possess the following education or experience:

  • Working as a .NET developer
  • Software development training for web browser applications (i.e. .NET)
  • Developing system functionality per design specifications
  • Performing and supporting testing efforts, including developing and executing unit tests to ensure software will perform as expected
  • Ability to work independently or with a team

 

Desired Technical Assets (Not required but considered additional training assets)

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2010/2012
  • C# .NET and/or VB.NET programming language
  • SQL skills, Microsoft and/or Oracle databases
  • Creating TSQL and/or Oracle stored procedures
  • Working with SQL Server and/or Oracle databases
  • Developing reports with Microsoft Reporting Services and/or Crystal
  • Team Foundation Server
  • IBM Cognos Business Intelligence tools
  • Data warehouse design and/or development (i.e. experience designing Key Performance Indicator Dashboards)
  • Creating both standard and ad hoc reports in IBM Cognos Report Studio and Query

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  PR 06  

 

Salary Range:  $1,797.80 - $1,869.54 Bi-Weekly

 

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
