Nova Scotia Energy Board - Board Member

The Nova Scotia Energy Board (Board) will be an independent quasi-judicial body having both regulatory and adjudicative jurisdiction flowing from the Energy and Regulatory Boards Act and various other statutes. The Board will be a division of the Energy and Regulatory Boards Tribunal, which will succeed the existing Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board. The Board’s mandates will include authority over electric, geothermal, and electricity efficiency and conservation utilities, the Halifax Water district energy project, gas distribution, pipelines and gas plants, subsurface energy storage facilities, and petroleum products pricing. All other mandates currently assigned to the Utility and Review Board will be assigned to the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board. About Our Opportunity


The Board is currently seeking applications for one full-time Member position as follows:
 

  • One Member with no specific designation, although preference may be given to candidates with professional legal or engineering qualifications (e.g., J.D., LL.B., or P.Eng.) or equivalent.

 

As a full-time Member of the Board, you must have the ability to chair and/or participate as a panel member in quasi-judicial public hearings, often involving sensitive and controversial matters, ensuring that fairness, good judgment, and independent decision-making is applied.  You are a professional with senior leadership experience, demonstrated commitment to diversity and employment equity, excellent decision-making skills, and excellent verbal and writing skills.  You must be in good standing with your professional association.  This position is in Halifax and will require travel throughout the province.

 

As set out in the Energy and Regulatory Boards Act, a member of the Energy Board may be appointed by the Chair to sit as a member of the Regulatory and Appeals Board on a matter-by-matter basis when the Chair considers appropriate.

An appointment to the Board is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory.

Salary Information


Salary Range:  $172,273 - $215,342 approximate annual salary.  In addition, the Board offers a comprehensive benefits package. Please Note: the salary range contemplates the appointment of individuals with considerable experience and skills and in all but exceptional cases, new board members would be appointed at the starting rate of the salary range and would typically progress to the higher end of the range through their term.
