About Our Opportunity


Working in a research based, team environment you will have the opportunity to lead and coordinate policy research initiatives in all areas of drug, dental, optometry and other insured health benefits and services including program and/or funding design. 


A typical day within this role will include:

  • Researching and analyzing existing legislation, identifying key issues, policy trends, benefits, risks and associated costs, as well as considering stakeholder interests and activities on politically sensitive issues;
  • Preparing background papers, briefing notes, ministerial advice, legislation, regulations and responses to ministerial correspondence on a broad range of policy issues and specific branch initiatives;
  • Leading project management initiatives and providing advice to advance branch and department initiatives by coordinating policy research, operational and analytical support to internal and external committees;
  • Maintaining awareness of, and perspective on, current and anticipated drug policy, dental optometry and other extended health benefits issues and challenges to develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations to inform departmental decision making;
  • Collaborating in planning and identifying priority action items through leading or supporting management in building policy frameworks to enable program design and development, address operational issues and practices, and evaluate policy changes.


About You


This position will require you to have a bachelor’s degree in Commerce or equivalent plus 8 years related experience; or related master’s degree plus 6 years related experience. 


As the successful candidate you will have experience in policy research, analysis, development and an advanced understanding of quantitative analytic methodologies and their application to policy development, as well as the ability to communicate these topics (both verbally and written) to a variety of audiences.  You will have excellent project management skills with an outstanding ability to work well under time pressures while also managing competing priorities that are often complex. In addition, you will also work effectively in a team environment and possess excellent Microsoft Office skills.


Experience in health insurance, drug policy, program design and/or extended health benefits will be considered an asset.



Pay Grade:  PR 17  


Salary Range:  $2,786.00 - $3,272.00 Bi-Weekly


This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
