About Our Opportunity

 

As the Program Specialist you will be responsible for administering the programs and services for the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, Women in Trades pilot project. 

 

As the Program Specialist, you will carry out activities necessary to effectively fulfill the legislative obligations of the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and mandate of the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications System as articulated in the Agency’s operating charter.  You will help build knowledge and awareness of the services provided by the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency and help build awareness and understanding of the institutional barriers’ women face in the skilled trades. 

 

This position reports to the Program Manager.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Engaging employers and providing guidance and support to employers and women in trades, you will develop an employer engagement plan.
  • Engage employers and assist employers with creating a welcoming workplace that is respectful and inclusive for diverse women.
  • Assist employers with navigation through the various programs and services offered by the agency
  • Identify programs or services that best meets the employer’s needs and assist the employer in applying for the program or service. 
  • Administer a targeted wage subsidy program for women in the skilled trades.
  • Provide support and consistent monitoring of activities & financial supports for both women and employers.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience conducting needs assessments and evaluations, an equivalent combination of training or experience will be considered. 

 

As the ideal candidate you have a passion to work with women and other diverse groups valuing the concept of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of your work.  You have previous experience working with the public and managing caseloads of clients providing guidance and support.  You possess effective and strong leadership skills and relationship building skills that allows you to develop and build productive relationships. You have experience administering programs and services. You posses excellent communication skills (verbal and written), excellent facilitation skills.  You bring creativity and ingenuity to your work. 

 

You have a high level of independent judgement, initiative, strong time management and decision-making skills.  You are proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Power-Point, Outlook etc.), scheduling and organizational skills. You have experience working in a fast-paced work environment with competing deadlines and experience interpreting and applying government acts, legislation and regulations and developing and implementing policies & procedures for programs. 

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks. A vehicle and a valid drivers’ license are required to fulfill the roles of this position.

Additional Information

 

This is a term opportunity with an anticipated end date of May 31, 2021; however, the position status (“term,” “temporary,” or “causal”) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

 

  • Travel within the province is required. 

 

 

Pay Grade:  PR 13  

Salary Range:  $2,384.94 - $2,899.09 Bi-Weekly
