About Us

 

A challenging and exciting opportunity exists to join the Market Regulation Branch of the Nova Scotia Securities Commission (NSSC). We are looking for a Program Specialist to work as a member of the team that provides front line investor protection through education, registration, and compliance activities.

About Our Opportunity

 

The Program Specialist reports to the Deputy Director, Registration & Compliance and is accountable for supporting investor protection in Nova Scotia by providing independent, specialized professional expertise for the administration, management, and delivery of programs and projects. The position is responsible for the day to day registration function.

Primary Accountabilities

 

The Program Specialist is responsible to plan, develop, and monitor new initiatives. Monitors and provides advice regarding registration issues. Manages needs and concerns of registrants. May participate in Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) standing and ad hoc committees, liaising with other provincial regulators and SROs with respect to registration and compliance issues.

 

The Program Specialist must comply with the NSSC’s Conflict of Interest Rules.

Qualifications and Experience

 

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of five years’ experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

 

As the ideal candidate you have previous experience developing, implementing, reviewing, and revising programs. You also have previous experience and an aptitude to deal with complex issues. You demonstrate a high level of initiative and an ability to use tact and diplomacy in difficult situations. 

 

You possess exceptional communication (written and verbal), analytical and problem-solving skills. You are a team player who is comfortable working independently.

 

Auditing, securities industry experience, and completion of CSI or equivalent courses (CSC, Branch Managers, CCO Exam or compliance courses) would be considered assets.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

 

Majority of work completed within an office environment; occasional site visits may be required.

Pay Grade:  PR 13  

Salary Range:  $2,396.86 - $2,913.59 Bi-Weekly
