About Our Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager, Strategic Projects will lead horizontal geoscience and mining initiatives that shape the future of Nova Scotia’s resource sector. This role will focus on broad, high-profile projects such as critical minerals, regulatory modernization, and cross-cutting strategic files that demand both technical expertise and big-picture vision.
As a key member of our leadership team, you will create, manage, and oversee impactful external projects, provide in-depth analyses on the state of the minerals resource sector, and critically review strategic files to inform senior decision-making. You will work collaboratively across government departments, and with the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia, industry and other stakeholders to drive forward solutions that balance economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on complex, challenging files, values strategic thinking, and enjoys working both independently and collaboratively on projects that matter to the province’s future.
Primary Accountabilities
· Leading in the provision of sound advice to Senior Management on complex issues, using a deep knowledge of mineral resource development, critical minerals and related regulation and programs.
· Developing and managing multi-faceted geoscience and mining-related projects with provincial and national significance.
· Advancing Nova Scotia’s Critical Minerals Strategy, regulatory, and other strategic initiatives that cut across government and industry priorities.
· Conducting research and analyses on the state of the mineral resource sector to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
· Provide clear, critical reviews and recommendations on strategic files to support executive decision-making.
· Working in collaboration with colleagues and partners to identify options to address complex issues or support the modernization of programs and services;
· Ensure meaningful engagement, fostering trust and long-term relationships that support sustainable prosperity and economic development.
· Act as a connector between departments, ensuring alignment of policies, programs, and strategic directions.
· Providing project leadership to meet routine requirements (e.g., briefing notes) and support the Department’s role in special projects of a strategic nature.
Qualifications and Experience
You possess a university degree geoscience, engineering, or a technical field related to the position. Demonstrated experience in the mineral resource sector, preferably with exposure to both technical and regulatory aspects.

Working Conditions
The majority of time is spent in a comfortable office setting, with some site visits as required, and frequent opportunity to move about and/or change positions.

Pay Grade: EC 11
Salary Range: $3,418.96 - $4,273.75 Bi-Weekly
