About Us


The Workers Compensation Appeals Tribunal is an independent appeals tribunal which hears and decides appeals from final decisions of the Workers Compensation Board.  The Tribunal is governed by the Workers Compensation Act of Nova Scotia and is the final level of appeal within the workers compensation system.


About our Opportunity


You will provide secretarial and administrative support services to the Tribunal, functioning with a high degree of independence, utilizing considerable initiative and judgment regarding all aspects of the Tribunal’s operations. You have the ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet and tactful manner, applying Tribunal policies and procedures, as necessary.


As the successful candidate, your responsibilities include transcribing and creating, from precedents, a variety of documents including appeal decisions, correspondence; maintaining an established filing system, including processing appeals and closing files; updating appeal information using the WCB’s database system; photocopying and review of claim file documents; contacting appeal participants, as required; and providing front desk and telephone reception relief.  Organization and time management skills are essential to this role, as well as accuracy and attention to detail. You must readily accept responsibilities, establish effective working relationships, and effectively handle matters with discretion, confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.


About You


To be successful in this role, you will have completed a one-year business course and three years’ related experience in an office environment (preferably legal or medical), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  You will be proficient in typing and dictation transcription with a minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.  You have working knowledge of case management database systems and data entry.  You must demonstrate skill and competency in computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and calendars).  A high degree of initiative, and excellent organization and communication skills are essential to this role.  Personal attributes suitable for dealing with the public and other organizations in a diplomatic, confidential and professional manner are necessary.


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.



Pay Grade:  CL 18  


Salary Range:  $1,510.00 - $1,689.48 Bi-Weekly


This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
