About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Building Design, the Senior Architect provides architectural, technical, and design expertise while ensuring the successful completion of assigned building projects.  Your work will include managing projects from initiation and developing building programs through the phases of schematic, design development, tender construction document, construction administration, and finally to completion of construction and occupancy.


Primary Accountabilities

You will act as a Design Project Manager on projects. We count on your expertise to:

  • Design safe, cost effective and efficient building layouts for the construction of new building additions and renovations of existing structures;
  • Coordinate and manage activities of internal/external technical personnel, contractors, housing authority staff and service providers on various projects;
  • Complete project designs on time and within budgets;
  • Lead your project team of professionals in resolving issues and removing roadblocks;
  • Identify, analyze and mitigate project risks;
  • Ensure safety is of top priority and work is carried out in accordance with the OHS Act and Regulations, building codes, as well as Department standards and polices; and
  • Provide a smooth transition to end users.


Qualifications and Experience

You have an Architecture degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience. You must also be (or meet the requirements to be) actively registered as a Full Member (Architect) with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA).

You have a strong technical background and a firm understanding of the construction industry and engineering principles, a good business sense, and effective skills in risk management. You seek to identify energy efficient architectural design solutions whenever possible to reduce consumption and running costs of buildings.


You also demonstrate excellent professional judgement and inspire confidence and creativity as you lead and motivate your project team. You display excellent professionalism in dealing with departmental management and stakeholders, providing feedback, and negotiating changes when necessary for agreements and contracts. You demonstrate initiative in resolving problems while maintaining commitments to schedule and budget and the enforcement of government policies.

Working Conditions

You will work within an office environment with specific field/site visits to active and proposed construction sites. On site visit hazards associated with a construction site will be present. You must have the ability to move about a construction site, work at heights, and in confined spaces.


Additional Information

Travel within the province is a component of this position. As such, you must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.

Pay Grade:  PR 18  

Salary Range:  $3,015.17 - $3,545.93 Bi-Weekly
