About Our Opportunity


Reporting directly to the Director of Strategy and Performance and working closely with the Executive Director, Strategy and Corporate Services on initiatives that are cross departmental and cross Government, as the Senior Corporate Policy Advisor, you will provide advice and leadership to the Senior Executive Team on a variety of complex and politically sensitive issues related to policy and legislation. You are responsible for ensuring that the Legislation, Regulation and Executive Council Submissions are of the highest quality and meet the standards set out in the Management Manuals.


Primary Accountabilities


In this position you provide strategic analysis, planning and advice to senior officials within the department to ensure that operational plans/processes are aligned with government priorities and objectives.


This position also manages key critical initiatives and ensures that all corporate reporting obligations of the Department are met.. There is a requirement to develop, implement and administer policies based on sound research and recommendations to respond to objectives and outcomes and support informed decisions made within the Department.


As the Senior Corporate Policy Advisor, you lead project teams responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating major initiatives and policies. Strong strategic analysis and research skills will guide the advice and recommendations provided to senior executives and to the minister on priorities and emerging issues. The position will have excellent communication and relationship building skills that enable engagement with partners and stakeholders and facilitate solutions that take into consideration feedback from various perspectives. You are an analytical thinker and strong writer who is interested in joining a team with a diverse and high-profile mandate.


Responsibilities also include: coordinating and preparing clear, accurate and timely ministerial briefing materials, cabinet submissions, presentations and other correspondence; researching, planning and drafting policy and related documents; participating in and/or leading work groups on specific issues; and providing insightful advice on an on-going basis.


Qualifications and Experience


As the successful candidate, you have a Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of related experience; or a Master’s Degree plus 3 years of related experience. A Degree in public administration, business, law or a related discipline would be an asset.


Attention to detail, the ability to work independently and exceptional analytical, presentation and organizational skills are required. You must demonstrate an aptitude for understanding and writing complex documentation  and have experience with preparation and presentation of briefing materials.


You exhibit excellent administrative, communication, project management and team leadership skills. Additionally, well developed technical skills in a variety of software applications including the Microsoft Office suite and internet applications are required.


This is a demanding position requiring high productivity and ability to work under pressure due to volume and deadlines especially when immediate results are required by senior decision makers. You are required to be effective in working in a team orientated environment, but also must have the ability to undertake complex assignments without supervision.


Finally, you will have demonstrated experience in the processes and decision-making structures and approval mechanisms. A solid understanding of the role of stakeholders is considered a strong asset.

Please note, this is expected to be a Term status position with an end date of July 28, 2023; however, the position status (“term”, “temporary” or “casual”) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  EC 11 

Salary Range:  $3,062.13 - $3,836.49 Bi-Weekly
