The Department delivers programs and activities related to electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency, geoscience, petroleum, and industry development.
The Clean Energy Branch provides leadership and direction to help transition the electricity, building, and transportation sectors to clean energy, and efficient energy use. The Branch focuses on policies and programs that help achieve the Province’s clean energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals, while maximizing benefits to Nova Scotians by promoting local energy production, system reliability and equity.
About Our Opportunity
The Nova Scotia Department of Energy is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join our Clean Buildings team.
As a senior member of the Clean Buildings team, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape, guide and support the development of clean energy policy and programs in the buildings sector. This includes energy efficiency, off oil programs, net zero buildings, workforce development and other buildings related initiatives.
Primary Accountabilities
- Develop and advise on complex strategies, policies, programs, and major initiatives related to energy efficiency and clean energy.
- Lead and facilitate policy and program development to support the department’s goals regarding energy efficiency, building energy performance, and supports such as off-oil programming and reducing energy poverty.
- Lead workforce development initiatives and training opportunities in the energy efficiency and buildings sector, including increasing access and diversity.
- Negotiate and manage various departmental, governmental and non-governmental interests, consult with municipalities, environmental and community groups, and businesses on matters relating to energy efficiency and clean energy. Also play a key role in managing stakeholder relations within some programs.
- Support program design, funding applications, and contracts.
Qualifications and Experience
You will have a Bachelor’s degree plus six years of related experience; or Master’s degree plus four years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
As the successful candidate you must have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the buildings sector, including energy efficiency policies, programs and technologies, and building energy performance.
- Demonstrated experience in workforce development initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in program design, implementation and evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder relations and community engagement.
The following would be an asset:
- Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) skills with ability to maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and action work under tight timelines.
- Self-direction and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical options to address complex issues.
- Experience in managing project and/or program funding agreements.
- Knowledge of key stakeholders involved in the buildings sector.
- Experience in pursuing Federal and private-sector program funding opportunities to amplify and strengthen the impact of Provincial public-sector funds.
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate knowledge of provincial energy initiatives, with specific knowledge of the Province’s energy efficiency and climate change policies and programs.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 17
Salary Range: $3,107.16 - $3,649.33 Bi-Weekly
