About Our Opportunity

 

The Office of Equity and Anti-Racism Initiatives (OEA) is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic person to join our team. 

 

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to help shape, guide and support the efforts to address systemic inequity and racism, promoting diversity and achieving equitable and anti-racist outcomes throughout government having a direct impact on marginalized communities. 

 

This position will support the Strategic Initiatives section of the Office. This section of the Office is responsible for the Land Titles Initiative, implementing recommendations from the Restorative Inquiry into the Nova Scotia Home for Coloured Children and other initiatives aimed at addressing systemic inequity and racism.

 

This position will report to the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives.

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Provides policy development, implementation, and evaluation/monitoring of the effectiveness of policy.
  • Makes effective recommendations with focus on strategic decision-making and impact of recommendations.
  • Consistently called upon to lead from start to finish a variety of complex policy projects.
  • Develops legislative, regulatory, policy, and process initiatives that that are strategically aligned with government priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this opportunity, you have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, such as public administration or social sciences. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.


As the successful candidate, you are a motivated and resourceful individual who is effective at building relationships and partnering with partners internal and external to your organization. You have experience developing and implementing policies and your expertise will ensure that the policies and procedures are equitable and address current and emerging social trends. You have experience interpreting legislation and recommending legislative and regulatory amendments. Your ability to make sound and thoughtful decisions is critical to this role. You also apply strategic thinking in your work, with a focus on continuous improvement. You value the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion. You consider the diverse needs of individuals in your decision making while collaborating with partners and colleagues.

 

As the successful candidate, you are fully proficient in a Microsoft Office environment, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools.  You will have experience with analytical thinking; client orientation; adaptability & flexibility; effective interactive communication and outcome focus.

 

Experience working with community partners would be considered an asset.


In addition, you will have:

  • Proven experience in policy development and program analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and preparation of briefing materials
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  EC 11 

Salary Range:  $3,143.79 - $3,929.78 Bi-Weekly
