About Our Opportunity

 

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Accountability, the Senior Strategist has a significant role in improving the health of Nova Scotians by providing expert research, analysis and strategic advice to promote effective Quality and Patient Safety plans and strategies across the health system.

 

The Senior Strategist leads projects, develops and leverages strategic partnerships, and participates in multi-disciplinary, interdepartmental and intergovernmental teams of senior staff in the identification and analysis of policy and research options and recommendations to advance Quality and Patient Safety.  The Senior Strategist develops legislative, regulatory, policy and process initiatives that are strategically aligned with departmental and government priorities.
 

Primary Accountabilities

 

As the Senior Strategist, you will act as an advisor on Quality and Patient Safety strategies and programs through review of relevant research, literature, reports, health system strategy, standards, key performance indicators, jurisdictional scans and stakeholder consultation, ensuring evidence-informed analysis of Quality and Patient Safety measures and best practices, and understanding of implications of current and proposed policy, legislation, and investment decisions.

 

You will also:

 

  • manage a broad range of research and related policy initiatives;
  • monitor the Quality and Safety indicators in accordance with the approved plans, outcome frameworks, strategic plans, and business plans;
  • review and provide input on plans and strategies related to health services provided by health system partners; and
  • develop, cultivate, and leverage key strategic partnerships.

 

Qualifications and Experience


As the successful candidate you have a master’s degree with progressive experience in a related field, or a post-secondary degree in a related discipline (health research, evaluation, etc.) as well as several years of progressive experience. You possess strong interpersonal skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced, agile environment and can demonstrate the following:

 

  • Demonstrated experience advancing research, strategies, outcomes monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Ability to work with an extensive stakeholder community with tact, diplomacy and an ability to build effective relationships to operate successfully in a political or complex environment.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills for preparing reports, briefing materials, or presentations.
  • Broad understanding of corporate and government issues and current health priorities.
  • Well organized, capable of prioritizing high-level work under tight timelines, and able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Working Conditions

 

  • Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting. You will have daily contact with various internal and external stakeholders. The scope of this role requires strong abilities in multi-tasking, balancing multiple priorities, meeting frequent deadlines, and making time sensitive recommendations. 
  • Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

Pay Grade:  EC 12 

Salary Range:  $3,458.20 - $4,322.75 Bi-Weekly
