The Driver Medical Fitness section in the Road Safety division at the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) is responsible for ensuring that Nova Scotia drivers are medically fit to safely operate a motor vehicle. Road safety is a critical component of public safety and is a top priority of the department.  

About Our Opportunity


As the Clerical student, you will gain practical administrative experience, and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.  


You will assist staff with a range of duties, which support the administration of the Driver Medical Fitness section at TIR, and contribute to the overall mandate of road safety by:


  • Providing customer service to both the public and road safety staff
  • Organizing, filing, and preparing documents
  • Sorting, recording and distributing incoming correspondence and reports
  • Maintaining and updating files and records  
  • Providing backup in other sections of the Road Safety division 


There will be opportunity gain exposure to a regulatory environment where decisions and actions are governed by the provincial Motor Vehicle Act and associated regulations. You’ll also learn about other government departments, as well as have exposure to sources of external information including Physicians/ Medical Professionals and Law Enforcement.

About You


You are a first-year student enrolled in a business administration or medical office program and returning to school in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program).  


As the ideal candidate you:


  • are familiar with computers including office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • are organized and able to prioritize your work;
  • demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when responding to enquiries by phone or email;
  • consistently maintain confidentiality.



We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This position has an anticipated end date of August 30, 2019.


Pay Grade:  HOURLY - HOURLY  


Salary Range:  $15.55 - $25.34 Hourly
