About Our Opportunity


Reporting to the Manager, Core Infrastructure, you are proficient in the areas of virtualization and enterprise storage providing guidance and specialized support services with a focus on virtualized infrastructure, enterprise block and file storage, data protection technologies and products. You will work with a team ensuring infrastructure and application availability, alerting of service interruptions, performance reporting and all facets of system readiness.

You will act in a manner that meets or exceeds the established customer service standards maintaining IT assets for the Government of Nova Scotia, playing a key role in supporting core service support processes to ensure a consistent level of services to users.

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Work with project teams within and outside your own work unit.
  • Monitor and maintain hardware, software, applications, and cloud services.
  • Participate in troubleshooting technical problems and issues.
  • Resolve incidents and problems related to virtual machines and enterprise storage and data protection.
  • Support operational services and monthly maintenance, including downtime and participation in the rotation of 24/7 on-call coverage.
  • Provide Tier 2 advice to Technical Analysts.

Qualifications and Experience


To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology plus a minimum of three years’ experience or graduation from a recognized Information Technology program plus three years and six months experience (or the equivalent combination of training and experience).

Related experience must include at least two years working in server environments and 6 months experience working in small projects and/or teams. Experience in infrastructure virtualization or Fiber Channel block (SAN), unstructured File storage (NAS) and system support is essential. Experience supporting large, mission critical (7x24) environments are definite assets for this position.

Other assets would include knowledge of SAN’s, networking, disaster recovery, HCI technology, Cisco UCS, Window\Linux operating systems, PowerShell scripting and the protocols SNMP, DNS, DHCP, FCoE.

Knowledge of project management methodology, ITIL processes, and IT and security policies and procedures in Government, are also assets. Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required, as well as demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients, staff, peers, and management. Ideally, you will be flexible and adaptable to changing business priorities.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Technical Specialist (CSO3) – Enterprise Storage (Term).  This TERM employment opportunity has anticipated end date of November 30, 2026. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

 

Security Screening Requirement:
This position requires employment screening consistent with the Canada Revenue Agency’s security requirements for roles that access CRA data under a data-sharing agreement. Candidates progressing to an offer must complete both a Criminal Record Check and a Financial Credit Check.

Pay Grade:  PR 14  

Salary Range:  $2,653.85 - $3,231.58 Bi-Weekly
