About Our Opportunity
The Database Infrastructure team delivers end-to-end database management services to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance. Our services including but not limited to system provisioning, access control, database migrations, patch management, real-time monitoring, 24/7 operational support, proactive maintenance, performance tuning, and strategic optimization.
We are seeking a Computer Services Officer 3 (Technical Specialist) to join the team. This position plays a key role in supporting MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle environments, ensuring databases are maintained with corporate standards and service level commitments. The role involves both operational support and participation in modernization initiatives that align with the government’s digital transformation and data management strategies.
Primary Accountabilities
- Install, configure, and manage MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle database infrastructure across all Government, and NS Health sectors
- Perform maintenance, patching, upgrades, and tuning to ensure reliability and performance
- Provide operational support and resolve database issues efficiently
- Implement and monitor backup, recovery, and high-availability configurations
- Monitor and optimize database performance and resource utilization
- Apply security and access controls with departmental policies
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams on projects and service delivery
- Serve as one of the primary contacts for high-impact client issues, communicating solutions clearly
- Maintain documentation for installations, configurations, and recovery procedures
- Apply ITIL processes for incident management, change management, and service requests
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience; or a recognized Information Technology diploma with three (3) years and six (6) months of experience (or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Demonstrated experience supporting MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle databases in an enterprise environment
- Proven experience with performance tuning, backup and recovery, and capacity planning
- Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and replication tools
- Working knowledge of UNIX (Linux and/or AIX) operating systems
- Familiarity with ITIL-based processes, including Change, Incident, and Major Incident Management
- Strong understanding of database security, including encryption and access control
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences
Assets
- Familiarity with SQL, PostgreSQL, and other relational database management systems
- Experience supporting Azure database solutions and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Experience with Oracle 11g/12c/19c
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell, Shell Scripting) and infrastructure automation tools
- Experience working in the public sector or other enterprise environments

Security Screening Requirement:

Pay Grade: PR 14
Salary Range: $2,653.85 - $3,231.58 Bi-Weekly
