About Our Opportunity


Under the direction of the Regional Manager, as the Casework Supervisor you will provide supervision to all Social Workers providing a broad range of departmental programs and services.
 

In addition, you will distribute cases and must actively deal with difficult and complex cases using casework techniques and ensure a high level of professional service to the public.

 

Primary Accountabilities


As the Casework Supervisor (Social Worker 3), you will provide supervision in casework techniques and program standards on a daily basis; manage the delivery of Family and Children's Services; supervise Social Workers and clerical support staff; assign cases and are responsible for ongoing case audits and caseload reviews.
 

You are responsible for communication and follow-up of information between management and staff, inspiring and motivating staff engagement, planning and implementation of new services, ongoing improvement of current services and the development of strong relationships within the team and across the region.
 

You will also work collaboratively with the program specialist(s), regional supervisors and relevant community agencies and non-profit groups.

 

Qualifications and Experience


You will have a Bachelor of Social Work plus five (5) years of related experience. You must be registered (or eligible for registration) with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, as well as possess a good theoretical and practical knowledge of the departmental process, family functioning, child development, services to persons with disabilities, and effective strategies with individuals and families.
 

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to provide effective leadership in complex and difficult situations are prerequisites.

Supervisory experience would be an asset.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions


Majority of the work involves meeting with clients in their homes or service providers at their place of business. This necessitates considerable driving time, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. While present in the office, time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

Often required to work beyond regular business hours, often on short notice. Required to be stable physically and emotionally to meet the demands of this position. Subjected to high degree of stress and must be able to work under pressure and in crisis.

 

Additional Information

 

This is a term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of August 8 2022. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  PR 17  

Salary Range:  $2,899.09 - $3,404.96 Bi-Weekly
