Duties

 

The Senior Heritage Interpreter (Clerk 3) will be supported by the Site Supervisor, Uniacke Estate Museum Park. This position would fit well with someone who would enjoy taking a leadership role in developing meaningful experiences for visitors of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Those you engage with are there to learn about the museum collection and the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia. You will enable this through hands-on, interactive, well-researched activities. In this role, you will encourage and support a team of heritage interpreters in offering the best interpretive experience for visitors. You will also assist with:

 

 

  • caring for the museum collection of artifacts, specimens (including flora and fauna) and related documentation
  • ensuring the safety and security of the museum collection and the public
  • maintaining and enhancing museum website and social media content
  • responding to visitor and media enquiries and requests for information
  • overseeing museum administration and retail operations

Qualifications and Experience


Grade 12 and four years of experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

The following training and experience are required:

 

  • knowledge and interest in local and Nova Scotian history and respect for the historical integrity of the site and its collections
  • strong research and written communication skills that people of all ages and abilities can understand and access
  • strong verbal communication skills with creative and innovative ways to engage with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
  • ease of interacting with the public, demonstrating tact, listening skills and a mindful and positive attitude
  • demonstrate the ability to lead and work as a team
  • computer proficiency in word processing, using forms and templates, e-mailing, Internet and social media
  • relevant experience leading projects or groups and planning, coordinating and delivering youth and/or adult programs

 

 

The successful candidate will be trained in the Nova Scotia Museum, government and departmental policies and procedures.

 

Previous museum work experience and French-language skills are considered assets.

Special Statement


You will be a vital member of the Nova Scotia Museum’s interpretation team. The Senior Heritage Interpreter will support the Museum’s goal to promote and engage visitors in understanding Nova Scotia’s unique cultural and natural history through interpretive programs and events.  

Additional Information

 

This is a seasonal employment opportunity for the period between May and October. Successful candidates must have the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and holidays. Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $1,684.00 - $1,884.17 Bi-Weekly
