About Us


The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for incarcerated adults and youth. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: Community Corrections and correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.
 

About Our Opportunity


Reporting to the Manager of Administrative Services, the Maintenance Officer, is responsible for janitorial duties in secure and administrative areas of the facility.  Duties will at times include the clean-up and removal of bio-hazardous waste and/or materials.  The Maintenance Officer assists with maintenance of all exterior landscaping, including lawn mowing, raking, gardening and snow removal.   The incumbent arranges the inspection, maintenance and repair of all institutional vehicles, equipment, and mechanical installations and assists the building operators as necessary with the general care of a large complement of electrical, mechanical, heating and ventilation equipment.  The incumbent will supervise the activities of inmates assigned to cleaning duties and yard work.
 

Qualifications and Experience


To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a Grade 11 or an acceptable equivalent and a minimum of two years of related experience is required.  Previous experience working in a secure environment would be an asset.  Also, an asset would be training in WHMIS, OH&S, Fall Protection, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Confined Space Awareness.  

During the interview, the successful candidate will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to write clear, concise correspondence.  Other required competencies are good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work unsupervised.  Good decision-making abilities and sound judgement are important. 

The successful candidate must submit a valid driver’s license and current driver’s abstract.

Pay Grade:  TR 01  

Salary Range:  $22.05 - $23.36 Hourly
