About Us
The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for incarcerated adults and youth. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: Community Corrections and correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.
About Our Opportunity
As the Materials Management Technician (MMT), you will report to the Coordinator of Administrative Services and are responsible for assisting in the maintenance and control of incoming and outgoing stock, inventory levels, issuing stock to the units, procurement for the correctional facility, and reconciliation functions in terms of invoices and purchase orders. The incumbent is responsible for coordination of the facility clothing program which includes purchasing, coordination, and issuing/distribution to staff. Security implications of all items being purchased must always be a priority. The Materials Management Technician may be called upon to act as back up for other positions within the Administration Team, as needed.
Primary Accountabilities
- Maintain incoming and outgoing stock for the facility
- Maintain supplies and conduct inventory audits as required
- Maintain uniform inventory control, ordering and issuing/distribution
- Maintain facility clothing program. Ensure consistent stock and supply as required
- Perform security checks of items being ordered
- Maintain records
- Perform searches for materials, upon request
- Verify information and account information
- Maintain cleaning supply inventory for both facilities
- Research and assist in the implementation of cost saving products and services
- Responsible for managing stock level for the effective operation of the Canteen services for individuals in custody. This includes searching and sourcing out new items for the canteen.
- Receiving deliveries daily, for facility and kitchen (requires heavy lifting).
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a High School Diploma and two (2) years of related material management experience. Previous experience with operating in a sales environment and interacting with members of the public is also required. You have some experience with file and/or records management. You have proficient keyboarding skills and a sound knowledge of general office procedures and computer programs, including MS Office, MS Word, Excel, Outlook and computerized stockroom and inventory programs. Certification in inventory control and materials management and knowledge of the provincial procurement policies would be an asset.
You are self-motivated, can work independently with minimal supervision as part of a larger team. Other competencies that must be demonstrated are strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy in their work, while working with sensitive, private information/records. You exercise tact and diplomacy and have good organizational and communication skills.
The Material Management Technician position is a physically demanding position, involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and bending.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

Working Conditions
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
May be required to work overtime on occasion.
Additional Information
This is a TERM employment opportunity with anticipated end date of October 25, 2025. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: ACC 02
Salary Range: $1,864.26 - $2,189.32 Bi-Weekly
