About Us

 

The Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) is a free service of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice that helps you make or receive court-ordered maintenance payments when your court order is enrolled with the program and can take steps to enforce maintenance orders when payments are not made. The MEP operates under the laws set out in the Maintenance Enforcement Act.

 

About Our Opportunity

 

Under the direction of the Director, Maintenance Enforcement Program, as the administrative assistant, you provide secretarial and administrative services for the Maintenance Enforcement Program. The mandate of Maintenance Enforcement Program is legislated by the Management Enforcement Act.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • provides secretarial and administrative support.

  • upon consultation with the Director, determines policies and procedures for general office operation.

  • interacts with departmental officials on operational and administrative matters.

  • communicates, on behalf of the Director, with other Government Departments and the general public on Program matters.

  • answers correspondence and requests for information, often of a confidential nature.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this opportunity, you have a one-year business course in addition to three years related experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience would be considered.

 

Excellent typing, transcribing skills, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills are required. As well, you are proficient in Microsoft Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). You demonstrate an ability to be a self-starter and work under minimum supervision. Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic, continuously evolving environment would be an asset. 

 

This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the Program's mandate, policies, procedures and activities, as well as considerable initiative, judgement, and discretion in order to resolve non-routine issues and inquiries.

 

As this position requires a high degree of independent action, you must be well organized to establish own work schedule and to ensure that office and administrative deadlines are met.  

 

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

 

Equivalency

 

Include, but not limited to:

 

  • Four years or more of directly related work experience.

Working Conditions

Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $1,579.09 - $1,766.79 Bi-Weekly
