About Our Opportunity


This opportunity would be a great fit for an individual that enjoys being outside and likes working with various types of equipment.


As a casual maintenance worker, you are a part of a team responsible for assisting with the seasonal maintenance of the building and grounds including required janitorial duties, lawncare, gardening and light maintenance.        

Primary Accountabilities


Reporting to the Visit Information Centre Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker 2A is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of both the exterior and interior of the Peggy’s Cove Provincial Information Centre. This includes


  • maintaining the grounds (mowing, planting, seeding, weeding cutting and trimming trees and bushes), minor repairs (painting, and plumbing) routine equipment and tools maintenance, janitorial (cleaning and stocking the washrooms along with cleaning the windows, floors and dusting) and maintaining cleaning supplies.
  • Assist with site maintenance, equipment inventories, security checks, opening and closing procedures and other duties as required.
  • Working in varying weather conditions and wet/cold environments.
  • Providing professional customer service and relations to visitors.


All employees are expected to follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace policies, procedures, and all safe work practices.

Qualifications and Experience


To be a successful candidate you must have completion of Grade 10 plus two years related experience. This includes knowledge and experience in general handyperson skills, painting, building and grounds maintenance, and general equipment maintenance as required.


Other considerations:


  1. Experience and strong knowledge of maintenance operations
  2. Strong aptitude for safe operation of equipment, general maintenance, and repair
  3. Ability to project a positive attitude through a confident and clear speaking voice
  4. Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
  5. Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements
  6. Ability to lift/carry 50+lbs of equipment over varying terrain
  7. Ability to work in a computer-based environment, utilizing software packages such as Microsoft Office including Outlook and Word
  8. Certification in First Aid and WHMIS


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions


Must also possess a driver’s license.

Additional Information


This is a causal employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 6, 2022. All shifts are from 9am – 5pm to a maximum of 40 shifts for the season.


The position includes working on weekends and holidays.

Pay Grade:  MOS 07  

Salary Range:  $22.04 - $22.60 Hourly
