About Our Opportunity

 

As the Junior Aquaculture Administration Officer, you will gain practical administrative and operational experience and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.

 

You will assist staff with a range of duties, which support the administration of the Aquaculture Division and contribute to the overall mandate of Fisheries and Aquaculture by:

  • Organizing, filing, and preparing documents
  • Inputting and analyzing data
  • Maintaining and updating files and records
  • Providing assistance to the other sections of the Division such as Operations, Development and Aquatic Animal Health


You will work with our Aquaculture Division to support the sustainable development of our province’s aquaculture sector. In your role with our team, you will play a part in the development of the aquaculture and marine plants sector by supporting the delivery of our regulatory programs. More specifically, you’ll work closely with the Aquaculture Development and Operations Divisions which are responsible for aquaculture management and development, field and lab operations and aquaculture and rockweed site reviews. You’ll have the opportunity to visit aquaculture operations, learn about the aquaculture site review and approval process and participate in office, lab and field work duties related to the environmental monitoring program.
 

There may also be opportunities to be an occasional crew member on our boat, the Ocean Prosperity, for local aquaculture site visits.
 

There will be opportunity to learn about the role of government in regulation, as well as how other provincial and federal departments work together.

You’ll be working in our Shelburne office which is home to members of our Aquaculture Operations, Development and Licensing and Leasing teams. You’ll have the opportunity to work independently on specific projects/tasks and carry out field assignments with the team that may take you to locations within Nova Scotia including the Department’s head office in Halifax and to other coastal communities throughout Nova Scotia. 

About You

 

You are a student, currently enrolled in a high-school (grade 11 or 12) or a post-secondary education program and returning to school in the fall or next applicable semester.
 

As the ideal candidate, you:

• are familiar with computers including office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;

• are organized and able to prioritize your work;

• demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when responding to enquiries by phone or email;

• consistently maintain confidentiality.
 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $14.90 - $26.78 Hourly
