About Our Opportunity

 

Working as a GIS Student with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, you will have the opportunity to assist with internal projects to develop Web GIS applications, and other tools, for integration into the Department's workflows.  You will collate information from existing data sources and use this information in the production of applications, tools, reports, and analyses.  This position will also assist with managing the geospatial information related to aquaculture, rockweed, and the seafood sector that is held by the Division. 

 

As the successful applicant you will gain an understanding of government information management systems and processes as well as develop research and analytical skills through the review and preparation of various reports.  This will be done through your work with managers, advisors, biologists, and technicians within the Department in response to various legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as policy and process requirements defined by the Department.

About You

 

As a successful candidate, you are currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary education program and returning to school in the fall of 2019 (or next applicable semester).

 

As the ideal candidate, you:

 

  • are familiar with computers including ESRI software and applications and Microsoft 365 software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • are organized and able to prioritize your work
  • demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when responding to enquiries by phone or email
  • consistently maintain confidentiality.

 

 Experience in map production, Web GIS design and applications, database management and/or knowledge of and experience with ArcGIS would be considered an asset.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

 

Salary Range:  $15.86 - $25.85 Hourly
