About Us


The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for incarcerated adults and youth. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: Community Corrections and correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.
 

About Our Opportunity


As the Clerk 3, you will report to the Manager of Administrative Services and are responsible for the timely and accurate processing of expenditure transactions (pertaining to: Individuals in Custody Trust Fund, supplier invoices, etc.) and cheque requisitions for the facility.  The incumbent is responsible for balancing and inputting purchase card statements and ensuring coding is accurate. 

The Administrative Clerk 3 is responsible to ensure weekly and monthly reports are promptly submitted to the Manager of Administrative Services for verification.  As well the incumbent must review all transactions to ensure compliance with governmental and departmental policy and maintain all records of original source documents for audit and other legal requirements.      

Additional duties include acting as a back up for other positions within Administration as needed.

 

Qualifications and Experience


To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold four (4) years of related administrative/clerical experience including some knowledge and/or experience of generally accepted accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures, is required.  An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

You have proficient keyboarding skills and a sound knowledge of general office procedures and computer programs, including MS Office, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. 

Successful completion of courses in accounting and bookkeeping would be a definite asset.  

Experience/understanding using Simply Accounting/QuickBooks or another accounting software would be an asset.

Experience/understanding of the Provincial Accounting System (SAP) would also be an asset.   

You are self-motivated, can work with minimal supervision and maintain the highest level of confidentiality, while working with sensitive, private information/records. You exercise tact and diplomacy and have good organizational, sound judgement and strong communication skills.  The successful candidate will also be a well-organized individual who is able to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a Permanent full-time employment opportunity, located at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility in Sydney, NS.

The facility is a 24-hour operation and is a tobacco-free environment.

Pay Grade:  CL 18  

Salary Range:  $1,684.00 - $1,884.17 Bi-Weekly
